Get airline compensation for your damaged baggage

For your damaged baggage you can get up to 1550 EUR.

Damage to baggage components including wheels, handles, straps and other glaring problems, such as holes or a cracked hardside bag, are covered.

Normal wear and tear, including scratches, scuff marks, stains, dents and dirt, are not covered.

I`m at the airport right now and my baggage arrived damaged

Contact the office of Lost and Found at the airport (every airport has it) to apply for a PIR (property irregularity report) or DPR (damage property report) certificate.

Save the received PIR/DPR certificate, baggage tags and flight ticket.

If baggage is damaged, contact the airline in writing within 7 days.

Collect all the checks. You will need them all in order to apply with a claim.

If you had connecting flights with different airlines, the compensation should be claimed from any of them - but most airlines expect to claim with the first airline you boarded.

Airlines are responsible for repairing or reimbursing a passenger for damaged baggage and/or its contents when the damage occurs while the bag is under the airline’s control.

If you didn't receive PIR/PDR certificate at the airport.
If you missed the deadline to apply for compensation.
